Lash Extensions - What you need to know

Writer's picture: Cheri MuhammadCheri Muhammad

It’s no surprise that lash extensions have become more popular in recent years. Most women don’t have the time or patience to apply fake lashes every day. Heck, sometimes we barely have time to use an eyelash curler and apply mascara! So lash extensions can be very convenient and save lots of time when getting ready. I remember when I got lash extensions for the first time. It was amazing, amazing to wake up with beautiful, long and full lashes each day ~ Flawless, I felt. I’m that girl that doesn’t wear much makeup. Simple, a shiny or iridescent lip gloss and eyeliner are all I need. After getting extensions, I ditched the eyeliner lol.

When it comes to getting lash extensions, it really is best to get them done by an experienced and reputable lash technician, like MYSELF ❤️. It may be more costly, but it’s better for your lashes and even the health of your eyes in the long run. When an inexperienced or self taught technician applies lashes, he or she may apply one synthetic lash to several natural lashes, causing clumps or the lash to break and fall out. In addition, your lashes might fall out if you pick at them or try to pull them out yourself. If you avoid these two problems, your lashes should stay intact.

There are three main types of lash extensions: synthetic, silk, and mink. Lengths of the lashes range from 6-17mm. Once selected, the lashes are applied one at a time using a specially formulated, semi-permanent glue that supposedly will not irritate your eyes or damage your natural lashes. However, since allergic reactions are possible, there are different types of glue based on one’s sensitivity.

Lash extensions last through a full growth cycle of natural eyelashes, typically six to eight weeks. Each person’s lash growth is different just like hair growth is unique, so lash maintenance is recommended every three weeks to maintain a full look. Since each lash extension is attached to a single eyelash, they will fall out naturally along with the natural growth cycle of each lash.
